Workshops to Support HEDIS and Gap Closure for Well-Child Visits and Child/Adolescent Immunizations
Is your team struggling to improve HEDIS and gap closure for well-child visits and child/adolescent immunizations? If so, then the upcoming ACNC Quality ECHO Clinic is just what the doctor ordered! Spots are limited for this free six-part workshop series, which will be offered monthly, beginning September 2024. Participating providers will review data as a group and learn best practices for success. Interest sessions begin in July and will explain requirements for participation and share official registration information.
-
Provider practices may be eligible for financial incentives for improving these HEDIS rates through ACNC Value-Based Programs.
- Participants who complete all sessions can receive:
- 25 Maintenance of Certification Part 4 (MOC4) credits
- Continuing medical education (CME) for physicians
- Continuing education units (CEU) for nurses
- Enrollment is limited to six to eight practices; however, a practice can send as many team members to the full series as needed.
- Check out the Featured Training Schedule found on our Provider Training webpage for additional information.
Please email projectecho@amerihealthcaritas.com for both a flyer on the training series and information on how to attend an upcoming interest session.
ACNC to Accept Pharmacy Electronic Prior Authorizations (ePA)
Effective July 1, 2024, ACNC will accept electronic prior authorization (ePA) requests through PerformRxSM via CoverMyMeds and Surescripts. ePA can eliminate the need for fax or phone submissions and offers a more streamlined prior authorization process. If you are a NaviNet user, prescribers are encouraged to attend an upcoming Lunch and Learn training series on June 25 or July 9, 2024.
Additional information can be found on the Pharmacy Prior Authorization webpage before the effective date.
Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment Wellness Visits Do NOT Require Prior Authorization
Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) is the Medicaid health benefit for children and adolescents under 21 years of age. EPSDT ensures that eligible children and young adults can receive preventive services, early care, acute care, and ongoing long-term treatment and services to prevent, diagnose and treat health problems as early as possible.
EPSDT visits include services recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the AAP Periodicity Schedule (PDF).
The required components of a EPSDT health check are:
- Comprehensive health and developmental history that assesses both physical and mental health, as well as for substance use disorders
- Comprehensive, unclothed physical examination
- Appropriate immunizations, in accordance with the schedule for pediatric vaccines established by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices
- Laboratory testing (including blood lead screening)
- Health education and anticipatory guidance for both the child and caregiver
- Other screening services to include:
- Dental screening: Providers can receive training in the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ (NCDHHS) Into the Mouth of Babes (IMB) program
- Hearing screening
- Vision screening
EPSDT preventive services (early and periodic screens/wellness visits) will NOT require prior authorization from ACNC.
If a problem is found during a wellness visit, providers make appropriate referrals to necessary diagnostic and treatment services. Prior approval may be required for specialized care.1 Diagnostic and treatment service referrals that are found to be medically necessary are covered under the EPSDT benefit regardless of whether the service is listed in the state plan.
For further information please see the Health Check Program Guide or the ACNC EPSDT page on our website.

Members Earn $25 for Completing a Care Needs Screening
All ACNC members are encouraged to complete a Care Needs Screening (CNS) survey that helps us understand their needs and how to best support them with programs and services. The Care Needs Screening asks questions about health history and habits. If an individual completes the screening within 90 days of enrolling with ACNC, they receive a $25 reward on their CARE Card.
ACNC Upcoming Pharmacy Changes

Remittance Advice Payment Recovery Details Now Available!
Due to the Change Healthcare security incident, remittance advices generated after February 21, 2024, have not included certain claim recovery information. For claims processed February 21, 2024, through May 5, 2024, ACNC has generated a comprehensive claims recovery report available in the NaviNet provider portal.
